MLAs in the assembly discuss about the various issues and problems existing in the society and try to bring government’s attention towards such issues. The government departments try to fulfil the demands made by the MLAs in the assemble and try to solve the various problems and issues by taking required measures, MLAs in the Assembly only have the authority to discuss about the issues and pressurise the government to pay attention to these issues whereas the government departments are responsible to take decisions regarding those issues.
MLAs make and debate decisions in the assembly. The government departments implement the decisions made by the legislative assembly. The difference between the work that MLAs do in the assembly and the work done by the government department is that every department is headed by a minister, the minister approves any work done or proposed by the department. The department is responsible for the protection and completion of the work whereas MLAs coordinate between the assembly and the departments.
