What do you understand by the term “all persons are equal before the law”? Why do you think it is important in a democracy?
Answer:
The term “all persons are equal before the law” means that everyone will be given justice before law by treating them equal. From the President of the country to the common people, all are equal in front of law. The Indian Constitution recognises every person as equal. It means every individual whether male or female persons from all castes, tribes, religion etc. should be treated equal. It is important in a democracy as equality is the soul of democracy. Democracy gives equal recognition to all. If inequalities on the basis of race, religion, caste, etc. will exist, then democracy would never flourish.

Question 5.
According to the Rights of persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, persons with disabilities have equal rights, and that the government should make possible their full participation in society. The government has to provide free education and integrate children with disabilities into mainstream school. This law also states that all public places including buildings, school, etc., should be accessiable and provided with ramps.
Look at the photograph given on page 15 of textbook and think about the boy who is being carried down the stairs. Do you think that the above law is being implemented in his base? What needs to be done to make the building more accessible for him? How would he be carried down the stairs which affect his dignity as well as his safety?
Answer:
No, the act is not being followed here. The disabilities act is being violated as the disabled person is not able to access the public place. To make the building more accessible, wheel chair ramps should have been constructed. Being carried down from the stairs can cause any mishap due to imbalance or carelessness. It also affects the dignity because he has to depend on others for his movement on the wheelchair. This kind of help makes him aware of his disability.
