Draw the following:

Question 1.
The square READ with RE = 5.1 cm.
Answer:
RE = 5.1 cm

Steps of construction:

  • Step 1: Draw RE =5.1 cm. Construct an an-gle 90° at point E and at point R.
  • Step 2: Vertex D and A are 5.1 cm away from point R and E respectively. Therefore, cut the line segments AE and RD of 5.1 cm by taking R and E as centre.
  • Step 3: Join D to A.

Question 2.
A rhombus whose diagonals are 5.2 cm and 6.4 cm long.
Answer:
In any rhombus, diagonals are perpendicular to each other:

  • Step 1: Draw a line segment PR of 5.2 cm and draw a perpendicular bisector of PR. Let the point of intersection be M.
  • Step 2: Draw arcs of 6.4 × \(\frac{1}{2}\) = 3.2 cm on both the sides of the perpendicular bisector. Let the point of intersection of arcs and perpendicular bisector are S and Q.
  • Step 3: Join points S and Q with points P

Thus, we get the required rhombus PQRS.

Question 3.
A rectangle with adjacent sides of lengths 5 cm and 4 cm.
Answer:
In rectangle, opposite sides have same length and measure of all the interior angles is 90°.

Steps of construction:

  • Step 1: Draw line segment PQ of 5 cm and draw an angle of 90° at point P.
  • Step 2: Vertex R and 5 are 4 cm away from point Q and P respectively. Therefore, cut the line segment QR and PS of 4 cm
  • Step 3: Join PS, SR and RQ.
  • Step 4: Thus, we get the required rectangle PQRS.

Question 4.
A parallelogram OKAY where OK = 5.5 cm and KA = 4.2 cm.
Answer:
In order to draw a quadrilateral, we need 5 measurements. But here we are given two consecutive sides, i.e., four sides (the opposite sides being equal). So data is insufficient. So the required parallelogram cannot be drawn.
