The advantages of writing on a hard surface are as follows : 
(a) They can not be easily destroyed.

Manuscripts are written by hand, usually on palm leaves or on specially prepared bark of the tree and they can be easily destroyed. While inscriptions were engraved on hard surfaces like metal, rocks or stones and they can be kept for long time.

Answer: 
The lives of kings would have been different from those of farmers as:

  1. Farmers used to work hard in the fields to produce food for king and other people, where as the duty of king was to protect his people and kingdom.
  2. Farmers did not keep records of what they did as they used to live ordinary life while kings kept records of their victories, administration etc.
