(c) What do you mean by the term ‘the scale of the map’?
Answer: 
Scale of the map is the ratio between the actual distance on the ground and the distance on the map.

(d) How are maps more helpful than a globe?
Answer: 
Maps are more helpful than the globe? because:

1. A globe can be useful when we want to study the Earth as a whole but if we want to study a part of the Earth, e.g. a continent or a country, maps are more convenient.
2. They help to study the details of the places minutely such as the physical and political features.
3. They can be easily folded and carried from one place to other.
4. It is easy to write and locate places and features on a map than a globe.

(e) Distinguish between a map and a plan.
Answer:
Map:

• It is a representation of Earth’s surface or a part of it, on a sheet of paper.
• It covers only the important political and physical features. This is because it has to cover large area, such as conti¬nents or countries.

Plan:

• It is a drawing of a small area on a large scale, on a sheet of paper.
• It covers every detail of an area/place. This is because it has to cover small area, such as a room.
