1. A Road Accident

Road accidents have become a common phenomenon in today's human life. Various reports of the police deptt. and the NGOs manifest the fact that the ratio of road accidents is increasing year by year.The other day, I was going from Jaipur to Kota via Ajmer by a Roadways Delux bus. I saw a jeep overloaded with passengers crossed the bus in which I was... travelling. After a while, I saw that the jeep rammed into a truck. The bus-driver halted the bus near the accident site. I, with other passengers, alighted from the bus.

What a heart tending scene it was ! The life had converted into dead bodies. Not a single was alive. Body organs were lying here and there. Hot blood was flowing. The road had become red with blood. The bus driver informed the nearby police-station. The police immediately reached there. They registered the statements of the witnesses. After all formalities, the dead bodies were taken to Ajmer for postmortem and then to hand over to the kinsmen. Thus, this road accident taught me a lesson. I always, obey traffic rules, never mix drink and drive, ensure safety first.

एक सड़क दुर्घटना

वर्तमान मानव जीवन में सड़क दुर्घटनाएँ एक आम घटना बन गई हैं। पुलिस विभाग व गैर सरकारी संगठनों की विभिन्न प्रतिवेदन इस तथ्य को प्रकट करती हैं कि सड़क दुर्घटनाओं का अनुपात वर्ष प्रतिवर्ष बढ़ रहा है।

एक दिन मैं जयपुर से कोटा, अजमेर होते हुए, रोडवेज की डीलक्स बस से जा रहा था। मैंने देखा कि यात्रियों से भरी हुई एक जीप ने हमारी बस को ओवरटेक किया। कुछ समय उपरान्त, मैंने देखा कि जीप एक ट्रक को टक्कर मारती हुई उसमें घुस गई। हमारी बस के ड्राईवर ने बस को दुर्घटना स्थल के पास रोका। मैं, अन्य यात्रियों के साथ, बस से नीचे उतरा।

यह बड़ा ही हृदय विदारक दृश्य था। जीवन, लाशों में परिवर्तित हो चुका था। एक भी जीवित नहीं बचा था। शरीर के अंग इधर-उधर बिखरे पड़े थे। गर्म रक्त बह रहा था। सड़क रक्त से लाल हो गई थी। हमारी बस के चालक ने नजदीक के पुलिस थाने को सूचित किया। पुलिस तुरन्त वहाँ पहुँची। उन्होंने गवाहों के बयान दर्ज किये। सभी औपचारिकता के उपरान्त, शवों को शव परीक्षण के लिए अजमेर लाया गया और उन्हें उनके रिश्तेदारों को सौंपने के लिए रखा गया। इस प्रकार इस सड़क दुर्घटना ने मुझे सबक सिखाया। मैं, हमेशा यातायात के नियमों का पालन करता हूँ, कभी भी शराब पीकर वाहन नहीं चलाता और पहले सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करता हूँ।

2. An Election Scene

Last Friday I went to the polling station. I was also a voter. There were tents of some political parties at a distance from the polling-station. They were giving slips to the voters with their names and other particulars. Many persons were standing in groups. They were talking about the elections. Some parties had arranged tongas, taxis, rickshaws to bring the voters from their houses.I went to the polling-station. There were two long lines (queues) of the voters.

A policeman was standing at the gate: Voters were going into the polling-booth one by one. There was one presiding officer and four polling officers. The first polling officer called out the name of the voter, the second checked it, the third put an indelible ink mark on the finger of the voter and the fourth gave him a ballot paper. The voter went to the ballot-box placed in the corner. There was a table. I put the rubber-seal on the ballot-paper. I folded it and dropped it into the ballotbox and came out. There was heavy voting between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Polling was over at 5 p.m.

चुनाव का दृश्य

गत शुक्रवार को मैं मतदान केन्द्र गया। मैं भी एक मतदाता हूँ। मतदान केन्द्र के कुछ दूरी पर कुछ राजनीतिक दलों के टैन्ट थे। वे मतदाताओं को पर्चियाँ दे रहे थे। अनेक व्यक्ति इधर-उधर समूहों में खड़े थे। वे चुनावों के विषय में बातें कर रहे थे। कुछ दलों ने मतदाताओं को उनके घरों से लाने के लिए तांगे, टैक्सी, रिक्शे लगा रखे थे। वे मतदाताओं को ला रहे थे।

मैं मतदान केन्द्र गया। वहाँ मतदाताओं की दो लम्बी कतारें थीं। एक सिपाही दरवाजे पर खड़ा था। मतदाता एक-एक करके मतदान केन्द्र में जा रहे थे। वहाँ एक पीठासीन अधिकारी और चार पोलिंग अफसर थे। पहला अफसर मतदाता का नाम पुकारता था, दूसरा उसकी जाँच करता था, तीसरा वोटर की उंगली पर अमिट स्याही का चिन्ह लगाता था और चौथा मतदाता को मतपत्र देता था। मतदाता कोने में मतदान-कक्ष में जाता था। मैंने मतदान-पत्र पर मोहर लगाई तथा उसे मोड़कर मतदान-पेटिका में डाल दिया और बाहर निकल आया। सुबह 10 बजे से दोपहर 2 बजे तक भारी मतदान हुआ। पाँच बजे मतदान रोक दिया गया।

3. An Indian Wedding

Or A Marriage Ceremony You Have Attended Last month I attended the marriage ceremony of my cousin (or friend). His house was decorated with colour bulbs. In the evening his relatives and friends gathered at his house. All members were in fine dresses. They were looking very happy. Ladies were singing songs. My cousin (or friend) put on a special dress. He sat on a decorated mare. There was a band-party with the 'barat'. It was playing tunes. On the way, at several places, his friends danced. We reached the bride's house.

The house of the bride was also decorated beautifully. The relatives of the bride welcomed us. There was a tent and there were chairs and a stage in it. We took our seats. The bridegroom took his seat on the stage. After some time, the bride came slowly with her friends. She was looking very beautiful. She also took her seat on the stage.

They garlanded each other. They served us tasty dinner. The bridegroom also took food. Then he was taken into the house. There was a 'Pandit'. The bridegroom and the bride sat side by side. The 'Pandit' spoke out 'mantras'. The pair took seven rounds of the holy fire. Now they were husband and wife. No dowry was given to the fride by her parents.Next morning the 'barat' returned the bridegroom's house with the bride. It was an ideal marriage because no dowry weas given in this marriage.

पिछले महीने मैं अपने चचेरे भाई (अथवा मित्र) के विवाह में सम्मिलित हुआ। उसका मकान रंगीन विद्युत-बल्बों से सजा हुआ था। शाम को उसके घर पर उसके सम्बन्धी और मित्रगण एकत्रित हुए। सभी सुन्दर वस्त्रों में थे। वे प्रसन्न दिखाई दे रहे थे। स्त्रियाँ गाने गा रही थीं। मेरे चचेरे भाई ने विशिष्ट पोशाक पहनी। वह सजी हुई घोड़ी पर बैठा। बरात के साथ एक बैंड पार्टी थी। यह (गानों की) धुनें बजा रही थी। मार्ग में, जगह-जगह उसके मित्रों ने नृत्य किया। हम दुल्हन के घर पहुंचे।

दुल्हन का घर भी बहुत सुन्दर सजा हुआ था। दुल्हन के सम्बन्धियों ने हमारा स्वागत किया। वहाँ एक टैन्ट था और वहाँ कुर्सियाँ व और एक स्टेज बनी हुई थी। हम बैठ गये। दूल्हा स्टेज पर बैठ गया। थोड़ी देर बाद दुल्हन अपनी सहेलियों के साथ धीरे-धीरे आई। वह बहुत सुन्दर दिख रही थी। वह भी स्टेज पर बैठ गई। उन्होंने एक-दूसरे को मालाएँ पहनाईं। उन लोगों ने हमें स्वादिष्ट रात्रिकालीन भोजन दिया।

दूल्हे ने भी व्यंजन का आनन्द लिया। तब उसे घर के अन्दर ले जाया गया। वहाँ एक पंडित था। दूल्हा व दुल्हन पास-पास बैठ गये। पंडित ने मंत्र बोले। उस जोड़े ने पवित्र अग्नि के सात फेरे लगाए। अब वे पति-पत्नी हो गये। दुल्हन को उसके माता-पिता द्वारा अच्छा दहेज दिया गया। यह एक आदर्श विवाह था क्योंकि इस विवाह में कोई दहेज नहीं दिया गया था।

4. A Bank Robbery

Gone are the days when bank robberies were rare incidents. Today, the newspapers regularly print news of robberies and burglaries of banks. Yesterday, one such robbery took place in a bank in Jaipur. I had gone there to deposit a cheque. It was as busy time. A large number of customers were waiting at the windows and counters of the bank for getting things done.

I was also standing before the cheque-collection counter. Suddenly, five people in kurtas and pyjamas, with pistols in their hands appeared from somewhere. Two of them stood at the gate after snatching the gun from the guard. One of them went to the manager's table and threatened him not to make any movement or raise an alarm.

Another went to the cashier's counter and asked him to handover all the cash lying with him. The third one kept a watch on the customers. After collecting the cash, all the five jumped upon three motorcycles kept for them by their companions outside the bank building. The police was informed after they had gone. It was a robbery involving a sum of 5 lakhs.

बैंक में लूट

वे दिन चले गये जब बैंक में लूट हो जाना दुर्लभ घटनायें हुआ करती थीं। आज अखबार नियमित रूप से बैंकों की डकैतियों एवं लूट-पाट की घटनाओं को छापते हैं।कल ऐसी ही एक डकैती जयपुर के एक बैंक में हुई। मैं वहाँ एक चेक जमा कराने गया था। यह एक व्यस्त समय था। बहुत सारे ग्राहक खिड़कियों एवं पटलों पर अपने काम करवाने हेतु लम्बी कतारों में खड़े थे। अचानक पाँच व्यक्ति जिन्होंने कुर्ते और पायजामे पहन रखे थे और हाथों में पिस्तौलें लिये हुए थे, कहीं से प्रकट हो गये। उनमें से दो लोग गार्ड से बन्दूक छीनने के बाद दरवाजे पर खड़े हो गये।

एक व्यक्ति मैनेजर की टेबल पर पहुँचा और धमकी. दी कि वह हिले-डुले नहीं और शोर न मचाये। एक अन्य व्यक्ति कैशियर के काउन्टर पर पहुँचा और उससे सारी नकदी सौंपने के लिए कहा। तीसरे व्यक्ति ने ग्राहकों पर निगाह रखी। नकद राशि इकट्ठा करने के बाद पाँचों लोग तीन मोटर-साइकिलों पर जा बैठे जिन्हें उनके साथी तैयार कर खड़े थे। पुलिस को उनके जाने के बाद सूचित किया गया। इस लूट में 5 लाख रुपये की हानि हुई।

5. My Last Day in School

The pattern of Education in our country provides school education up to class XII. The examination of Board at the end of class XII is known as Senior Secondary Examination. So the day I left the school to appear at the Senior Secondary Examination of 2007 was my last day in school as a student. It was a day of great excitement. Perhaps it was of greater excitement than that of my first day in College.

It was a day when we were being given farewell by the students of class XI. It appeared like a grand send off. We were being praised for our humble patronising behaviour with the students of junior classes. Our teachers blessed us with bright future for us. We also begged blessings of our teachers that was to bring bright prospects in our life.

We thanked our younger brother-students for the respect they had shown towards us. We promised them all help when they would reach college for their studies. It presented an atmosphere of excitement. We felt as if we were departing from our dear ones. The days shall ever remain in my memory.

विद्यालय में मेरा अन्तिम दिन (दिवस)

हमारे देश की शिक्षा प्रणाली में बारहवीं कक्षा तक की शिक्षा विद्यालयों में दी जाती है। बारहवीं कक्षा की बोर्ड की परीक्षा उच्च माध्यमिक परीक्षा कहलाती है। इसलिये जिस दिन मैंने सन् 2007 की उच्च माध्यमिक परीक्षा देने के लिए विद्यालय छोड़ा, वह विद्यार्थी के रूप में मेरा उस विद्यालय में अन्तिम दिन था। वह बहुत ही रोमांचक एवं बहुत ही उत्तेजना का दिना था। शायद यह कॉलेज में अपने प्रथम दिन की उत्तेजना से भी अधिक उत्तेजना का दिन था।

यह वह दिन था जबकि कक्षा IX के विद्यार्थियों द्वारा हमको विदाई दी जा रही थी। यह तो एक बहुत ही शानदार विदाई के समान लग रही थी। जूनियर कक्षाओं के विद्यार्थियों द्वारा उनके साथ हमारे विनम्र संरक्षणपूर्ण व्यवहार की प्रशंसा की जा रही थी। हमारे अध्यापकों ने हमारे उज्ज्वल भविष्य के लिए हमको आशीर्वाद दिया। हमने भी अपने अध्यापकों से अपने उज्ज्वल भविष्य के लिए आशीर्वाद माँगा। हमने अपने छोटे विद्यार्थी भाइयों को उनके द्वारा हमारे प्रति प्रदर्शित सम्मान के लिए धन्यवाद दिया। हमने उनको पूरी मदद देने का आश्वासन दिया जब हम कॉलेज में प्रवेश लेंगे। इस सबने वहाँ उत्तेजना का एक वातावरण उपस्थित कर दिया। हमने तो ऐसा महसूस किया मानो कि हम अपने प्रियजनों से बिछुड़ रहे थे। यह दिन मेरी स्मृति में सदैव ही ताजा बना रहेगा।

6. My Best Friend

Anil is my best friend. He reads in my class. He is the son of a very rich man. He respects his parents and elders. He is simple. He is an ideal student.He regularly comes to school. He has thirst for knowledge. He has a great interest in his studies. He always stands first in the class. He is a very hardworking boy. He is fond of reading newspapers and magazines. He does not waste his time. His character is very high.

He is true to his word. He is obedient to his teachers. All the teachers love him. He is very polite and gentle. He does not hate anyone. He is a kind boy. He helps the poor and weak students. He tries to learn good things from every person. He is a good player of football. He is a good speaker. He takes part in debates. He believes in simple living and high thinking.He is my fast friend. He helps me very much in my studies. Last month I fell ill. He came to see me daily. He is very faithful and helpful to me. He wishes that I should also progress. I am lucky to have such a good friend. I am really proud of him.

मेरा एक सर्वश्रेष्ठ मित्र

अनिल मेरा सर्वश्रेष्ठ मित्र है। वह मेरी कक्षा में पढ़ता है। वह एक बहुत धनी व्यक्ति का पुत्र है। वह अपने माता-पिता व बड़ों का आदर करता है। वह सरल है। वह एक आदर्श विद्यार्थी है। वह स्कूल में रोज आता है। वह बहुत ज्ञान प्राप्त करना चाहता है। उसे अपने अध्ययन में बहुत रुचि है। वह सदैव अपनी कक्षा में प्रथम आता है। वह बहुत कठोर कार्य करने वाला लड़का है। वह समाचार-पत्र व पत्रिकाएँ पढ़ने का शौकीन है।

वह अपना समय बरबाद नहीं करता है। उसका चरित्र बहुत ऊँचा है। वह अपने वायदे का पक्का है। वह अपने गुरुजनों का आज्ञाकारी है। समस्त गुरुजन उसे प्यार करते हैं। वह बहुत विनम्र और भद्र है। वह किसी से घृणा नहीं करता। वह एक दयालु लड़का है। वह निर्धन एवं कमजोर विद्यार्थियों की सहायता करता है। वह प्रत्येक व्यक्ति से अच्छी चीजें सीखने की कोशिश करता है। वह फुटबाल का अच्छा खिलाड़ी है। वह एक अच्छा वक्ता है। वह वाद-विवाद प्रतियोगिताओं में भाग लेता है। वह सादा जीवन व उच्च विचार में विश्वास करता है। वह मेरा पक्का मित्र है। वह मेरे अध्ययन में बहुत सहायता करता है। पिछले माह मैं बीमार हो गया। वह प्रतिदिन मुझे देखने के लिए आता था। वह मेरे प्रति बहुत वफादार और मेरे लिये सहायक है। वह चाहता है कि मैं उन्नति करूँ। ऐसे अच्छे मित्र को पाकर मैं भाग्यशाली हूँ। मुझे उस पर गर्व है।

7. My Favourite Teacher 

Shri Ramesh Kumar is my favourite teacher. He teaches us English. His method of teaching is very good and simple. His examination results are very good every year. He regularly comes to out class. He is a very hardworking teacher. All the students respect him. He loves all the students. He helps the poor and the weak students. He is true to his word.

He is a good-natured man. He believes in simple living and high thinking. He is a man of very simple habits. He loves discipline. He is a good speaker. He is also a good writer. He does not pride himself. He gives right advice to the students.He loves all the students like a father, and forgives them like a mother. He is not a teacher by chance, but a eacher by choice. 

The college is proud of him and he is proud of the college. He helps me very much in my studies. Last month I was ill. He daily came to see me. He wishes that I should also progress in my life. He is my friend, philosopher and guide. I am lucky to have such a good teacher. I am proud of him. He is really an ideal teacher.

मेरा प्रिय अध्यापक 

श्री रमेश कुमार मेरे प्रिय अध्यापक हैं। वह हमें अंग्रेजी पढ़ाते हैं। उनके पढ़ाने का तरीका बहुत अच्छा एवं सरल है। प्रत्येक वर्ष उनके परीक्षा परिणाम बहुत अच्छे रहते हैं। वह हमारी कक्षा में नियमित आते हैं। वह अत्यन्त परिश्रमी अध्यापक हैं। सभी विद्यार्थी उनका सम्मान करते हैं। वह सभी विद्यार्थियों को प्यार करते हैं। वह निर्धन एवं कमजोर विद्यार्थियों की सहायता करते हैं। वह अपनी बात के धनी (पक्के) हैं। उनका स्वभाव बहुत अच्छा है। वह सादा जीवन व उच्च विचार में विश्वास करते हैं। वह बहुत ही -- आदतों के व्यक्ति हैं। उन्हें अनुशासन प्रिय है। वह एक अच्छे वक्ता हैं। वह एक अच्छे लेखक भी हैं । उन्हें घमण्ड नहीं है। वह विद्यार्थियों को सही सलाह देते हैं।

वह पिता के समान विद्यार्थियों को प्यार करते हैं, और वह माता के समान उन्हें क्षमा कर देते हैं। वह यों ही अचानक अध्यापक नहीं बन गये, बल्कि वह अध्यापक स्वयं बनना चाहते थे। कॉलेज को उन पर गर्व है और उन्हें कॉलेज पर. गर्व है। वह अध्ययन में मेरी बहुत सहायता करते हैं। गत माह मैं बीमार हो गया। वह मुझे देखने प्रतिदिन आते थे। वह चाहते हैं कि मैं भी अपने जीवन में उन्नति करूं। वह मेरे मित्र, मेरे लिए दार्शनिक तथा मेरे पथप्रदर्शक हैं। मैं ऐसे अच्छे अध्यापक को पाकर बहुत भाग्यशाली हूँ। मुझे उन पर गर्व है। वह वास्तव में एक आदर्श अध्यापक हैं।।

8. A Visit to a Historical Place 

Last year we got a chance to visit Chittor. It is a famous historical place of Rajasthan. There is the 'Vijay Stambh'. It indicates the bravery of the ancient Rajput kings. The fort of Chittor is situated on a high hill. We had a chance to see the famous palace of Padmini. It was the building where the queen burnt herself alive with other queens and her maids. She did so to protect her honour and the honour of other women.

We also visited the places where Maharana Pratap had spent his days of hardship. In the Fort, there were several kinds of weapons that were used in fighting battles. There were also saffron-coloured garments worn by the brave fighters of those days. The Fort itself is well-protected on all sides. The complete history of Mewar is engraved on its walls. There are parks and gardens in the fort. These spots used to be the places of recreation of the ancient kings. We stayed there for five hours. We enjoyed it very much. We also learnt a lot about the ancient history of Rajasthan.

एक ऐतिहासिक स्थान की यात्रा 

गत वर्ष हमें चित्तौड़ जाने का अवसर मिला। यह राजस्थान का प्रसिद्ध ऐतिहासिक स्थल है। यहाँ 'विजय स्तम्भ' है। यह प्राचीन राजाओं की बहादुरी का संकेत देता है। चित्तौड़ का किला एक ऊँची पहाड़ी पर स्थित है। हमें प्रसिद्ध पद्मिनी का महल भी देखने का अवसर मिला। यही वह स्थान है जहाँ रानी ने अन्य रानियों तथा अपनी सखियों के साथ आत्मदाह कर लिया था। उसने ऐसा अपने सम्मान तथा अन्य स्त्रियों के सम्मान की रक्षा करने के लिए किया था।

हमने उन स्थानों को भी देखा जहाँ महाराणा प्रताप अपनी कठिनाई के दिनों में रहे थे। यहाँ कई प्रकार के हथियार थे जो युद्ध में काम आते थे। इसके अलावा यहाँ केसरिया रंग के वस्त्र भी हैं जो प्राचीन समय के योद्धा पहना करते थे। यह किला चारों ओर से अच्छी तरह सुरक्षित है। मेवाड़ का सम्पूर्ण इतिहास इसकी दीवारों पर अंकित है। किले में बाग-बगीचे भी हैं जो प्राचीन राजाओं के मनोरंजन के स्थल हुआ करते थे। हम वहाँ पाँच घंटे रुके। हमने इस यात्रा का काफी आनन्द लिया। हमने वहाँ से राजस्थान के इतिहास के बारे में काफी जानकारी भी प्राप्त की।

9. A Picnic 

Last Sunday it was a rainy day. My friends came to me and decided to go to a canal which was about five kilometers from my town. It was a fine weather that day. The sky was covered with dark clouds and the air was cool. We went to market and purchased some sweets and fruits. At about 11 p.m. we started for the canal on our bicycles. On the way some friends were talking, singing and laughing loudly. There were green trees and fields on both sides of the road. We were going slowly. 

We were so happy that we did not feel how we covered distance. We reached the canal. There was a verandah near the canal. We cleaned it and prepared tea there. We enjoyed it very much. After some time we bathed in the canal. At this time it was raining heavily. Anil, Sunder and Harish swam in the canal. After it, we again came back to the verandah. We were very hungry. We ate together. After it we rested for about half an hour. We came back to our town happily. I cannot forget this picnic in my life.

एक पिकनिक 

पिछले रविवार को वर्षा का दिन था। मेरे मित्र मेरे पास आये और नहर पर जाने का निश्चय किया जो हमारे कस्बे से लगभग पाँच किलोमीटर दूर थी। उस समय सुन्दर मौसम था। आकाश गहरे बादलों से ढका हुआ था और हवा शीतल थी। हम बाजार गये और कुछ मिठाइयाँ व फल खरीदे। लगभग 11 बजे हम अपनी साइकिलों पर नहर की ओर रवाना हुए। रास्ते में कुछ मित्र जोर-जोर से बातें कर रहे थे, गा रहे थे और हँस रहे थे। सड़क के दोनों ओर हरे वृक्ष एवं खेत थे। हम धीरे-धीरे जा रहे थे। हम इतने प्रसन्न थे कि हमें यह ज्ञात ही नहीं हुआ कि मार्ग कैसे कटा। हम नहर पर पहुंचे। नहर के पास एक बरामदा था। हमने इसे साफ किया और चाय तैयार की। हमें बहुत आनन्द आया।

थोडी देर बाद हमने नहर में स्नान किया। इस समय जोर से वर्षा हो रही थी। अनिल, सुन्दर और हरीश नहर में तैरे। इसके पश्चात् हम फिर बरामदे में आ गये। हमें बहुत भूख लगी थी। हमने साथ-साथ भोजन किया। इसके पश्चात् हमने लगभग आधा घण्टा विश्राम किया। हम अपने घर प्रसन्नतापूर्वक वापिस आ गये। मैं इस पिकनिक को अपने जीवन में नहीं भूल सकता।
