  • Observing the direction in which sand flies, when released from our hands slowly into the air.

Question 3.
State two experiences that made you think that air exerts pressure (other than those given in the text).
Answer:
Two experiences that shows that air exerts pressure are:
1. When we blow a balloon, it inflates. But if we continue blowing the balloon beyond its capacity, the balloon bursts.

2. When we board a flight while the plane is trying to land, we feel pain in our ears. This is due to our movement from the upper atmosphere to lower layer that exerts more pressure on our ear drums.

Question 4.
You want to buy a house. Would you like to buy a house having windows but no ventilators? Explain your answer.
Answer:
No, buying a house with windows but no ventilators would be bad idea. This is because the warm air from inside the house caused by various activities, expands and rises up, and exit through the ventilators. If we want a continue supply of cool and fresh air through the windows, we have to create an opening or ventilation for the spent air to pass out. That is why both windows and ventilators are required for a good designing of a house.

Question 5.
Explain why holes are made in hanging banners and hoardings.
Answer:
Air exerts pressure and moving air also has some pressure. So when a hoarding or banner comes in the direction of wind, air exerts pressure on it and can damage it or tear it. This can be avoided if we create a passage for the air by making holes in hanging banners and hoardings.
