Passage 1.

A rich man lived in a small town in Rajasthan. One day he brought home two large and juicy mangoes. He gave them to his servant and said, "Hey Ramu!Take these to the kitchen and cut them. Make two cups of coffee too. A friend of mine will be coming soon. Bring the mangoes and coffee when he comes." Ramu took the mangoes to the kitchen and cut them with a knife. Then, to make sure they were not sour, he put one piece in his mouth. Ah !how sweet it tasted! "If I eat just one more piece, the master will never know", he thought. He put one more piece into his mouth and then one more. In a few minutes, the plate was empty.

Passage 2.

Ramu felt a little frightened. The master was sure to beat him. Just then he heard his master calling, "Ramu, have you cut the mangoes? Keep the coffee ready too. My friend will be here any minute." Poor Ramu! What was he to do now? He had already eaten up the mangoes. He thought quickly, and got an idea. "Oh master!" he replied, "The knife is blunt. I can't cut the mangoes with it." “You fool! Why didn't you tell me earlier?" the master shouted. “Bring the knife here. I'll sharpen it, for you."

Ramu took a large and blunt knife from the kitchen and gave it to his master. While the master was busy sharpening it, Ramu quietly went out of the house. The friend stared in surprise. "Fight?" he said. “We didn't really have a fight. But yesterday when he came to my house, I put on his chappals by mistake."

हिन्दी अनुवाद-एक धनवान व्यक्ति राजस्थान के एक छोटे से कस्बे में रहता था। एक दिन वह घर | पर दो बड़े तथा रसीले आम लाया। उसने उनको अपने नौकर को दिया तथा कहा "अरे राम! इन्हें रसोई | में ले जाओ और काट लो। दो कप कॉफी भी बनाओ। मेरा एक मित्र शीघ्र ही आयेगा। जब वह आये, | आमों तथा कॉफी को साथ लेकर आना।" रामू आमों को रसोई में ले गया तथा एक चाकू से उन्हें काटा। इसके बाद, यह निश्चित करने के लिए | कि आम खट्टे नहीं थे, उसने एक हिस्सा अपने मुंह में रख लिया। अरे! यह बहुत मीठा था। "अगर मैं एक और टुकड़ा खा लूँ तो मालिक कभी भी नहीं जान पायेगा", उसने सोचा। उसने अपने मुँह में एक और टुकड़ा रखा तथा बाद में एक और रखा। कुछ ही मिनटों में, प्लेट खाली हो गई।

हिन्दी अनुवाद-रामू कुछ भयभीत हो गया। मालिक निश्चित ही उसे पीटने वाला था। उसी समय, उसने अपने मालिक की पुकार सुनी, "रामू, क्या आपने आम काट लिए हैं? कॉफी भी तैयार रखना । मेरा | मित्र किसी भी समय यहाँ होगा।" बेचारा रामू! अब उसके पास करने के लिए क्या था? आमों को उसने पहले ही खा लिया था। उसने शीघ्रता से सोचा और उसे एक विचार आया। "ओह मालिक!" उसने जवाब दिया, "चाकू भौंटा है। मैं इसके साथ आमों को नहीं काट सकता हूँ।" "तु मुर्ख! तुमने मुझे पहले क्यों नहीं बताया?" मालिक चिल्लाया।"चाकू यहाँ लाओ। मैं इसे तुम्हारे लिए घिसकर तीखा करूँगा।"

दोस्त ने हैरानी से घूरा।"लड़ाई?" उसने कहा। "सचमुच हमारे में कोई लड़ाई नहीं थी। लेकिन कल, जब वह मेरे घर आया, मैंने भूल से उसकी चप्पलें पहन ली थीं। अब उसे क्यों एक छोटी सी चीज के लिए मेरे कान काटने चाहिए?" _"मैं आपको बता रहा हूँ श्रीमान, वह आपके कान काटना चाहता है।" रामू ने दुबारा कहा। "अगर आपको मुझ पर विश्वास नहीं है, आप स्वयं देख सकते हो। लेकिन ध्यान रहे, आप उसे अपने आपको पकड़ने मत देना!"

हिन्दी अनुवाद-दोस्त रेंगकर एक खुली खिड़की के पास गया तथा घर के मालिक को एक बड़ा चाकू घिसकर तेज करते हुए देखा। "हे भगवान!" वह चिल्लाया। "वह वास्तव में मेरे कान काटना चाहता है। अच्छा हो कि वह मुझे देखे उससे पहले मैं भाग जाऊँ।" वह पीछे मुड़ा तथा उसी रास्ते भाग गया जिस रास्ते से वह आया था। तब रामू चिल्लाता हुआ आया, "मालिक, मालिक, आपका दोस्त दोनों आमों को ले गया है। वह वहाँ, भाग रहा है।" मालिक ने ऊपर देखा और उसने अपने मित्र को पूरी गति से भागते हुए देखा। वह तेजी से बाहर आया तथा अपने दोस्त के पीछे दौड़ा। 

"ठहरो! ठहरो!" वह चिल्लाया। "अगर तुम चाहो तो एक रख लो, लेकिन दूसरा मुझे लेने दो।" दोस्त ने पीछे देखा और देखा कि मालिक एक हाथ में एक बड़ा चाकू लिये उसके पीछे दौड़ रहा था। वह भय से चीखा। अपनी गति दुगुनी की, वह दूर अदृश्य हो गया। मालिक ने शीघ्र ही पीछा छोड़ दिया तथा वापिस अपने घर आ गया। रामू को पुकारता हुआ, उसने कहा, "वह कभी नहीं जानता था कि वह व्यक्ति इतना लोभी तथा एक चोर भी था! आपको मुझे बताने के लिए धन्यवाद।" फिर वह बाहर गया तथा दो और बड़े रसदार आमों के साथ आया। रामू को देते हुए, | उसने कहा, "रामू, एक तुम खा लो तथा दूसरा मेरे लिए काट लो।"
