Very Short Answer Type Questions

Question 1.
Find the perimeter of a rectangle whose length and breadth are 15.4 m and 3.2 m respectively.
Answer:
Length of the rectangle = 15.4 m
Breadth of the rectangle = 3.2 m
∴ Perimeter of rectangle
= 2 (length + breadth)
= 2 (15.4 +3.2) m
= 2 × 18.6 = 37.2 m.

Question 2.
Find the perimeter of a square, each of whose side measures 6.3 cm.
Answer:
Each side of a square = 6.3 cm
Perimeter of a square
= 4 × side = 4 × 6.3 = 25.2 cm.

Question 3.
Find the area of rectangle whose length and breadth are 8.2 cm and 5.2 cm respectively.
Answer:
Length of rectangle = 8.2 cm
Breadth of rectangle = 5.2 cm
∴ Area of a rectangle = length + breadth
= 8.2 cm + 5.2 cm = 13.4 cm2.

Question 4.
Find the area of a square whose sides is 7 cm.
Answer:
Side of a square = 7 cm
Area of a square = (side)2
= (7)2 = 49 cm2.

Short Answer Type Questions

Question 1.
The length and breadth of a rectangle are in the ratio 5 : 4 and its perimeter is 144 cm. Find its dimensions.
Answer:
Let the length and breadth of rectangle are 5x and 4x respectively.
∵ Perimeter of rectangle = 144 cm = 5
⇒ 2(l + b) = 144
⇒ 2(5x + 4%) = 144
⇒ 2 × 9x = 144
⇒ l8x = 144
∴ x = \(\frac{144}{18}\) = 8
Hence, Length of a rectangle
= 5x = 5 × 8 = 40 cm.
Breadth = 4x = 4 × 8 = 32cm.

Question 2.
The cost of fencing a rectangular field at ₹ 7.50 per metre is ₹ 600. If its length is 24 m, find its breadth.
Answer:
Total cost of fencing = ₹ 600
Rate of fencing = ₹ 7.50/metre
∴ Perimeter of the field
= \(\frac{\text { Total cost }}{\text { Rate/m }}\) = \(\frac{600}{7.5}\) m
= 80 m
Let the breadth of the field = x metre
∵ Perimeter = 80
⇒ 2(24+ x) =80
⇒ 48 + 2x = 80
⇒ 2x = 80 - 48 = 32
∴ x = \(\frac{32}{2}\) = 16
Hence, the breadth of the field = 16 m.

Question 3.
The cost of constructing a boundary wall of a square field at ₹ 25/ metre is ₹ 1,600. Find the length of each side of the field.
Answer:
Total cost of constructing boundary wall = ₹ 1,600
Rate of construction = ₹ 25/metre
So, Perimeter of a square
= \(\frac{\text { Total cost }}{\text { Rate } / \mathrm{m}}\) = \(\left(\frac{1600}{25}\right)\) = 64 m
Let the length of each side of square = x m
Then, its perimeter =; 64 m
⇒ 4 × side = 64 m
⇒ side = \(\frac{64}{4}\)m = 16m.
Hence, length of each side of the field = 16 m
