RBSE Class 5 English Grammar Number

परिभाषा-Noun का वह रूप जिससे उसके एक या एक से अधिक होने का बोध हो, Number (वचन) | कहलाता है। वचन दो होते हैं 
(1) Singular Number (एकवचन) 
(2) Plural Number (बहुवचन)। 

1. Singular Number-एकवचन से केवल एक व्यक्ति, वस्तु या स्थान का बोध होता है, जैसे boy, horse, chair, hand आदि।

2. Plural Number-बहुवचन से एक से अधिक व्यक्तियों या वस्तुओं का बोध होता है, जैसे - boys, horses, chairs, hands आदि। 
एकवचन की संज्ञाओं से बहुवचन की संज्ञाएँ बनाने के निम्नलिखित नियम हैंनियम 

नियम 1. साधारणतया एकवचन से बहुवचन बनाते समय संज्ञाओं के अन्त में s जोड़ देते हैं, जैसे

नियम 2. जिन Nouns के अन्त में s, ss, ch, sh, z, x आये, उनका बहुवचन अधिकतर es लगाने से बनता है, जैसे --

नियम 3. यदि शब्दों के अन्त में y हो उससे पहले a, e,o में से कोई vowel (स्वर) हो तो Plural बनाते समय 'g' लगाते हैं, जैसे

boy day  monkey	boys  days monkeys

नियम 4. यदि शब्द के अन्त में 'y' हो और उससे पहले कोई consonant (व्यंजन) हो तो बहुवचन बनाते समय y को '1' में बदलकर 'es' लगाते हैं, जैसे

baby  lady city country story	babies ladies cities countries stories

नियम 5. अगर शब्द के अन्त में " या 'fe' आते हैं तो बहुवचन बनाते समय " या fe' को ves में बदल देते हैं, जैसे --

calf  thief leaf wife	calves thieves leaves wives

नोट-कुछ शब्दों के अन्त में 'f या 'fe' होते हुए भी केवल 's' लगाते हैं, जैसे --

chief  safe   roof  hoof	chiefs  safes  roofs hoofs

नियम 6. जिन शब्दों के अन्त में 'o' हो तो Plural बनाते समय 'es' लगाते हैं, जैसे

hero  mango  tomato  potato	heroes mangoes tomatoes potatoes

परन्तु यदि शब्द short form में हो या विदेशी उत्पत्ति का हो तो केवल 's' ही लगाया जाता है, जैसे

photo   kilo	photos  kilos

नियम 7. कुछ शब्दों का Plural (बहुवचन) vowels (a,e,i,o,u) के बदलने से बनता है, जैसे

man   foot   tooth  mouse	men feet  teeth mice

नियम 8. कुछ शब्दों का Plural 'en' या 'ren' जोड़ने से बनता है, जैसे

ox child	oxen children

नियम 9. संयुक्त संज्ञाओं (Compound Nouns) का बहुवचन मुख्य शब्द में 'g' लगाकर बनाते हैं, कभी यह मुख्य शब्द पहले होता है तथा कभी बाद में, जैसे

fathers-in-law step-son	fathers-in-law step-sons

नियम 10. कुछ Nouns का रूप एकवचन तथा बहुवचन में एक-सा रहता है, जैसे -

नियम 11. Pronouns (सर्वनाम) के एकवचन तथा बहुवचन निम्न प्रकार से होते हैं --

नोट - Plurals में 's' and 'es' के उच्चारण पर विशेष

ध्यान दीजिए. 

1. शब्दों के अन्त में p,t,k, f या th आने पर उनके Plural बनाने पर '' का उच्चारण 'स' होता है,




2. यदि शब्दों के अन्त में s, sh, z, ch, ge हों तोs - या es जोड़ने पर इसका उच्चारण 'इज' होगा, जैसे-.... 

3. शेष शब्दों के अन्त में 5 जोड़ने पर उसका उच्चारण 'ज़' होगा, जैसे
