Choose another region in India like Kerala and Ladakh and do a similar study of the historical and geographical factors that influence the diversity found there. Are these historical and geographical factors connected to each other? How?
Answer:
Like Ladakh and Kerala, we choose the ‘Assam’ state of India. The major geographical factor here is-Brahmaputra river valley, warm and humid climate, dense forests. The main agricultural crops here are rice, tea and jute and the main food here is rice and fish. Looking at the historical factors here, Assam was organized by the Ahom rulers and exploited by the British traders. Due to- trade in Assam, traders from many communities came.
Thus both the geographical location and historical background have influenced the diversity here. Both these factors are related to each other because the Ahom people ruled here and got mixed with their own and tribal people’s culture. After this, during the British period, Christian missionaries, and merchants infiltrated here and exploited its people and increased its religious diversity, linguistic diversity and customs.
