Time For Class 5 Question 3.
Subtract:
(i) 9 hours 32 minutes from 12 hours 18 minutes
(ii) 25 minutes 49 seconds from 29 minutes 39 seconds
(iii) 7 hours 35 minutes from 14 hours 8 minutes
(iv) 10 hours 50 minutes from 20 hours 40 minutes
Solution:
(i) 12 hrs. 18 min.
- 9 hrs. 32 min.
Since, 32 min. cannot subtract from 18 min. So, add 18 min. to 60 min. by taking 1 hr from 12 hrs, (= 60 min.) in 18 min.
Then, 60 + 18 = 78 min.
Thus,
(ii) 29 min. 39 sec.
- 25 min. 49 sec.
Since, 49 sec. cannot subtract from 39 sec.
So, take 1 mm from 29 min (= 60 sec) and add in 39 sec. then.
60 + 39 = 99 sec.
Thus,
(iii) 14 hrs. 8 min.
- 7 hrs. 35 min.
Since, 35 min. cannot subtract from 8 min. So that 1 hr from 14 hrs. (= 60 min.) and add in 8 minutes.
Then, 60 + 8 = 68 minutes
Thus,
(iv) 20 hrs. 40 min.
- 10 hrs. 50 min.
Since, 50 minutes cannot subtract from 40 minutes. So, take 1 hr (=60 min.) from 20 hrs. and add in 40 min.
Then
