The biosphere reserves help to maintain the biodiversity and culture of that area. A biosphere reserve may also contain other protected areas in it. The Pachamarhi Biosphere Reserve consists of one national park named Satpura and two wildlife sanctuaries named Bori and Pachmarhi. Biosphere reserve also protects that area's ecosystem.

Animals found in a particular area is known as fauna of that area, for example: chinkara, blue bull, barking deer, cheetal, leopard, wild dog, wolf etc. is the fauna of the Pachmarhi biosphere reserve.

Wildlife sanctuary:
In such areas animals are protected. Sanctuaries are places where killing (poaching) or capturing of animals is strictly prohibited. Sanctuaries provide protection and conservation of endangered animals. Example: In Pachmarhi wildlife sanctuary, black buck, white eyed buck, elephant, golden cat, pink headed duck, gharial, marsh crocodile, python, rhinoceros, etc. endangered wild animals are protected and preserved. Indian sanctuaries have unique landscapes level forests, mountain forests and bush lands in deltas of big rivers. Here animals get natural suitable living conditions.

This is a vast reserve area. Here all components of environment are completely conserved. They preserve flora, fauna, landscape and historic objects. Satpura national park is the first reserve forest of India. Rock shelters are also found inside the Satpura National Park. These are the prehistoric evidences of human life in these jungles. They give us an idea of the life of the primitive people. Rock paintings are found in these shelters. A total of 55 rock shelters have been identified in Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve.

An ecosystem is made of all the living components like plants, animals and microorganisms in an area along with non - living components such as climate, soil, river, deltas etc. Small animals also effect the ecosystem for example if we kill snakes, frogs, lizards, bats etc. they will effect food chain and food web because the organism dependent on them will be destroyed and their population will increase and directly effect the ecosystem. In this way ecosystem will be imbalanced.

1. Conservation of wild life is necessary to maintain ecological balance in nature. For example, if we restrict poaching carnivorous animals like lions and tigers living in forests, we can conserve them and they will control the number of herbivorous animals like buck, which eat green plants of the forest. By this the plants remain protected and ecological balance is maintained.
2. In nature to protect the gene pool conservation of wildlife it is necessary to protect the complete extinction of animals and rare species of birds from earth is necessary for conservation of wildlife.
