RBSE Class 8 Maths Solutions Chapter 4 Practical Geometry Ex 4.1

Question 1.
Construct the following quadrilaterals.
(i) Quadrilateral ABCD
AB = 4.5 cm
BC = 5.5 cm
CD = 4 cm
AD = 6 cm
AC = 7 cm
Answer:
First we draw a rough sketch of a quadrilateral ABCD and write down its dimensions as shown.
RBSE Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Practical Geometry Ex 4.1 1
We divide it into two conveniently constructible triangles ABC and ACD.

Steps of construction:
RBSE Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Practical Geometry Ex 4.1 2

  1. We draw AC = 7 cm
  2. With A as centre and radius 4.5 cm, we draw an arc (below AC)
  3. With C as centre and radius 5.5 cm, we draw another arc cutting the previous arc at B.
  4. We join AB and BC.
  5. With A as centre and radius 6 cm., we draw an arc (above AC)
  6. With C as centre and radius 4 cm, we draw another arc cutting the previous arc at D.
  7. We join AD and CD.

Then we get the required quadrilateral ABCD.

(ii) Quadrilateral JUMP
JU = 3.5cm
UM = 4cm
MP = 5 cm
PJ = 4.5cm
PU = 6.5 cm
Answer:
First we draw a rough sketch of a quadrilateral JUMP and write down its dimensions as shown.
RBSE Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Practical Geometry Ex 4.1 3
We divide it into two conveniently constructible triangles PJU and PMU.

Steps of construction:
RBSE Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Practical Geometry Ex 4.1 4

  1. First we draw PU = 6.5 cm
  2. With P as centre and radius 4.5 cm, we draw an arc below PU.
  3. With U as centre and radius 3.5 cm, we draw another arc cutting the previous arc at J.
  4. We join PJ and JU.
  5. With P as centre and radius 5 cm, we draw an arc above PU.
  6. With U as centre and radius 4 cm, we draw another arc cutting the previous arc at M.
  7. Now we join PM and UM.

Hence we get JUMP as the required triangle.

(iii) Parallelogram MORE
OR = 6 cm
RE = 4.5 cm
EO = 7.5 cm
Answer:
We draw a rough sketch of the required parallelogram and write down the given dimensions.
RBSE Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Practical Geometry Ex 4.1 5
Steps of construction:
RBSE Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Practical Geometry Ex 4.1 6

  1. First we draw OR = 6 cm.
  2. With O as centre and radius 7.5 cm, we draw an arc. 6cm
  3. With R as centre and radius 4.5 cm, we draw another arc to cut the previous arc of E.
  4. Now we join 0E and RE
  5. With O as centre and radius 4.5 cm, we draw an arc.
  6. With E as Centre and radius 6 cm, we draw another arc to cut the previous arc at M.
  7. Now we join MO and ME.

Hence we got the required parallelogram MORE.

Steps of construciton:
RBSE Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Practical Geometry Ex 4.1 8

  1. First we draw BE = 4.5 cm.
  2. With B as centre and radius 4.5 cm, we draw an arc.
  3. With E as centre and radius 6 cm, we draw another arc to cut the previous arc at T.
  4. Now we join BT and ET.
  5. With T afs centre and radius 4.5 cm we draw an arc.
  6. With E as centre and radius 4.5 cm, we draw another arc to cut the Previous arc at S.
  7. Now we join TC B 4.5cm and ES.

Hence we get the required rhombus.
