(a) What is the true shape of the Earth?
Answer: 
The Earth is flattened at the top and bottom, and is bulging at the centre which looks like orange. This shape of the Earth is called a spheroid.

(b) What is a globe?
Answer: 
A globe is an exact miniature model of the Earth. It shows all the countries and continents in their correct shapes and sizes.

(c) What is the latitudinal value of the Tropic of Cancer?
Answer: 
The latitudinal value of the Tropic of cancer is 231/2° N.

(d) What are the three heat zones of the Earth?
Answer: 
The three heat zones of the Earth are the Torrid Zone, the Temperate Zone and the Frigid Zone.

(e) What are parallels of latitude and meridians of longitude?
Answer: 
All parallels circle from the equator, up to the poles are called parallels of latitudes. Meridians of longitude are the lines of reference running from the North Pole to the South Pole.

(f) Why does the torrid zone receive maximum amount of heat?
Answer: 
The rays of Sun fall vertically almost throughout the year thus this area receives maximumm heat and is the hottest zone of the world.

(g) Why is it 5.30‘p.m. in India and 12.00 noon in London?
Answer: 
The time difference between India and London is five and a half hours. India is located in east of the Greenwich at 82° 30' E, so it will be 5.30 pm in India when it is 12.00 noon in London. The time difference between each degree of longitude is 4 minutes, since India is in the east, the time here will be ahead of the Greenwich Time.
