How many oceans are there in the world? Explain it briefly.
Answer:
There are mainly four oceans in the world which are as follows:

1. The Pacific Ocean –
It is the largest of all the oceans. Its shape is like that of a triangle. It is spread in 1/3 area of the world. It is surrounded by Asia, North America, South America, Antarctica and Australia continents. Many islands of Asia and Australia lie in it. Japan, Philippines and New Zealand etc. are important among-est them. Many gorges and trenches are found in this ocean. 60% of volcanic eruption and earthquakes occur at the coastal region of this ocean; Therefore, its coastal region is called ‘Fire Ring’.

2. The Atlantic Ocean –
It is the second largest ocean. It is ‘S’ in shape. It is surrounded by North and South America in the west, and Europe and Africa in the east. ‘The Daggar Bank’ and ‘Grand Bank’ are the main fishing centers in the northern region of this ocean. A fully submerged system of mountain, known as central gorge is present at the centre if the Atlantic ocean. It is the busiest ocean in the world as all the important sea routes pass through it.

3. The Indian Ocean –
It is the third largest mountain in the world. It is joined to the Pacific ocean in the east and the Atlantic ocean in the west. The Arabian sea situated to the west and the Bay of Bengal to the east of our country are parts of the Indian odean only. It is named after our country Hindustan, which is situated in the north. It has many islands.

4. The Arctic Ocean –
It is the smallest ocean amongst all the oceans in the world. It is situated around the North Pole. It is the only ocean which is covered with ice. ‘Bering Strait’ connects it to the Pacific ocean and the ‘Denmark Strait’ connects it to the Atlantic ocean.

5. Antarctica –
It is located around the south pole. So it remains covered with thick layer of snow all the time. It is the coldest region in the world. As a result, there is no permanent human habitation here. There is no vegetation also.

6. Europe –
It is second smallest continent in the world. Asia lies in the east of it. It is the third largest country in terms of population. Almost all the countries of this continent are developed.

7. Australia –
It is the smallest continent in the world lying in South hemisphere. Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania and nearby islands are part of this continent. That is why it is called ‘Oceania’.
