What are the similarities between the bulb used in homes and the bulb used in torch?
Answer:
The bulb used in homes and the bulb used in torch have similar structures. Both have a thin wire called filament which glows when the electric circuit completes. It is attached between two thick wires. one of these thick wires is connected to the metal case all the base of the bulb and the other wire is connected to the metal tip at the centre of the base. These are the two terminals of the bulb.

Sometimes we see that even In a complete electric circuit, the bulb does not glow? What is the cause of it?
Answer:
Sometimes even in a complete electric circuit, the bulb does not glow. Ii may have following reasons –

  • The circuit is not compete.
  • The wires are not properly connected.

Question 3.
What is the difference between a normal bulb and a fused bulb?
Answer:
A normal bulb glows when it completes electric circuit hut a fused bulb does not glow even when the circuit is completed. In the fused bulb the thin wire called the filament breaks due to which it does not flow. This is called the fused bulb.

How does a switch work?
Answer:
We often use a button or a switch to do on or off the electric appliances like fan. or bulb in our home. This is called electric switch or button. On switching the electric circuit completes and the electric current flows while on switching off the switch the circuit opens and the electric current stops flowing. Thus an electric switch is used to open or close the electric circuit.

Question 1.
Why the person (electrician) wears rubber gloves while climbing of an electric pole?
Answer:
Rubber is an insulator i.e. had conductor of electricity. In it electric current does not flow. Thus the person will not get any electric shock and he will be safe also. Because of this the person wears rubber gloves while climbing on an electric pole.

Question 2.
Why are the handles of pliers and screwdrivers covered with plastic and rubber?
Answer:
Pliers and screwdrivers are the electric instruments. Both are made up of metal (iron). Metals are good conductors of electricity. Thus pliers and screwdrivers conduct electricity. It they are covered with plastic or rubber, all the covered portion twill not be conducted by electricity and no electric shock will be there and the persons working with them will he sate. That is why handles of pliers and screwdrivers are covered with plastic and rubber.

What is an open electric circuit? Explain it with a diagram.
Answer:
In an open circuit, the circuit is incomplete because of which current does not flow. This is called an open electric circuit. With the help of wires, connect drawing pin ‘A’ to the electric bulb, connect the other terminal of the bulb with an electric cell and connect the other terminal of the cell lo the drawing pin ‘B’ as shown in figure. When we move the free end ‘C’ of the safety pin away from drawing pin ‘A’ the bulb stops glowing. In this case, a gap remains between the drawing pin ‘A’ and the free end ‘C’ of the safety pin and the circuit reaming incomplete. An incomplete circuit is also called as an open circuit. In this condition, the electric current does not flow through the circuit.

Answer:
The flow of charges in a circuit is called. electric current Connect the terminals of electric cell with the terminals of the bulb with the help of wires. When electricity flows through the filament, it heats up to a very high temperature and glows. Question 1.
Explain in brief about electric cell.
Answer:
The upper end of an electric cell is positive and its lower disc end is made of zinc negative. Thus a cell has two terminals –

This circuit shows the flow of electricity between the two terminals of electric cell.

Answer:
Sometimes, we see that even in a complete electric circuit, the bulb does not glow. It only happens when the connection of the circuit is not completed or the wires arc not properly connected or the but is damaged. The damaged bulb is also known as a fused bulb. A bulb can be fused due to many reasons. One of the reasons is the breaking of its filament.

Since the bulb terminals are connected with the terminals of electric cell, the current flows through the filament of the bulb which glows the bulb. But when the filament of the bulb is broken, the current flowing between the electric current is not passed through the filament of a fused bulb and the bulb does not glow at all.
