Question 1.
Which is greater?
(a) 0.3 or 0.4
Answer:
0.3 04 0.4.
Whole part for both numbers are same and is equal to 0 but tenths part of 0.4 is greater than the tenths part of 0.3, so 0.4 > 0.3

(b) 0.07 or 0.02
Answer:
0.07 or 0.02
Here, ones part and tenths part of both numbers are same but hundreths part of 0.07 is greater than the hundredths part of 0.02, so 0.07 > 0.02

(c) 3 or 0.8
Answer:
3 or 0.8
Here, whole part 3 is greater than the whole part 0 of 0.8, so 3 > 0.8

(d) 0.5 or 0.05
Answer:
0.5 or 0.05
Here, the tenths part of 0.5 is greater than the tenths part of 0.05, so 0.5 > 0.05

(e) 1.23 or 1.2
Answer:
1.23 or 1.2    ,
By converting into like decimals 1.2 can be written as 1.20.
We can see that ones part and tenths part of 1.23 and 1.20 are same but hundredths part of 1.23 is    3 and 1.20 is 0.
Since, 3 >    0
∴ 1.23    >    1.2

(f) 0.099 or 0.19
Answer:
0.099 or 0.19
Since, the whole part of both numbers are same and tenths part of 0.099 is 0 while tenths part is 1.
∴ 1 > 0
∴ 0.19 > 0.099

(g) 1.5 or 1.50
Answer:
1.5 or 1.50
By converting into like decimals 1.5 can be written as 1.50.
Since ones, tenths and hundreths parts of both numbers are same.
∴ 1.5 = 1.50

(h) 1.431 or 1.490
Answer:
1.431 or 1.490
Since ones part and tenths part of 1.431 and 1.490 are same but hundredths part of 1.431 is 3 and hundredths part of 1.490 is 9.
∴9 > 3
⇒ 1.490 > 1.431

(i) 3.3 or 3.300
Answer:
3.3 or 3.300
By converting into like decimals 3.3 can be written as 3.300.
Since ones, tenths, hundredths and thousandths parts of both the numbers are same.
⇒ 3.3 = 3.300

(j) 5.64 or 5.603
Answer:
5.64 or 5.603
Ones part and tenths part of both numbers are same. But hundredths part of 5.64 is 4 and 5.603 is 0.
∴ 4 > 0
⇒ 5.64 > 5.603

Question 2.
Make five more examples and find the greater number from them.
Answer:
Five more examples are :
(i) 2.303, 2.325
∵ Ones part and tenths part of both numbers are same but hundredths part of 2.303 is 0 and 2.325 is 2.
∵ 2 > 0 
∴ 2.325 > 2.303

(ii) 6.404, 6.402
Ones, tenths and hundredths parts of both numbers are same, whole thousandths part of 6.404 is 4 and 6.402 is 2.
∵ 4 > 2
∴ 6.404 > 6.402

(iii) 0.356, 0.305
∵ Ones part and tenths part of both numbers are same, while hundredths part of 0.356 is 5 and 0.305 is 0.
∵ 5 >0
∴ 0.356 >0.305

(iv) 1.231,1.322
∵ Ones part of both numbers are same, whole tenths part of 1.231 is 2 and 1.322 is 3.
∵ 3 > 2
∴ 1.322 >1.231

(v) 5.67, 5.670
By converting into like decimals 5.67 can be written as 5.670.
Since all parts; ones, tenths, hundredth and thousandths part of both numbers are same, therefore,
5.67 = 5.670
