Convert the following hours into minutes.

(1) 1\(\frac{1}{4}\) hour = _______ minutes
(2) 2\(\frac{1}{2}\) hour    = _______ minutes
(3) 5\(\frac{3}{4}\) hour    = _______ minutes
(4) 3\(\frac{1}{5}\) hour    = _______ minutes
Solution: 
(1) 1\(\frac{1}{4}\) hour = \(\frac{5}{4}\) × 60 minutes
= 5 × 15 minutes 
= 75 minutes

(2) 2\(\frac{1}{2}\) hour = \(\frac{5}{2}\) × 60 minutes
= 5 × 30 min. = 150 min.

(3) 5\(\frac{3}{4}\) hour = \(\frac{23}{4}\) × 60 min.
= 23 × 15 min. = 345 min.

(4) 3\(\frac{1}{5}\) hour = \(\frac{16}{5}\) × 60 min.
= 16 × 12 min. = 192 min.

Convert the time units of following questions:

1. 20 min. = 20 × 60 sec.
= 1200 sec

= 13 × 30 = 390 sec.

3. 15\(\frac{1}{4}\) min. = \(\frac{61}{4}\) × 60 sec
= 61 × 15 sec = 915 sec.

4. 4 hrs. = 4 × 3600 sec.
= 14400 sec.

5. 2\(\frac{3}{4}\) hrs. = \(\frac{11}{4}\) × 3600 sec.
= 11 × 900 sec.

Subtract:
(i) 9 hours 32 minutes from 12 hours 18 minutes
(ii) 25 minutes 49 seconds from 29 minutes 39 seconds
(iii) 7 hours 35 minutes from 14 hours 8 minutes
(iv) 10 hours 50 minutes from 20 hours 40 minutes
Solution: 
(i) 12 hrs. 18 min.
- 9 hrs. 32 min.
Since, 32 min. cannot subtract from 18 min. So, add 18 min. to 60 min. by taking 1 hr from 12 hrs, (= 60 min.) in 18 min. 
Then, 60 + 18 = 78 min.

- 25 min. 49 sec.
Since, 49 sec. cannot subtract from 39 sec.
