Amanda should be 13-14 years old. We know this by her mother's mentioning of Amanda's 'acne' in the line — “Remember your acne, Amanda!' Usually boys or girls at this age have acne on their faces.

Answer:
Yes, I know the story. of Rapunzel. She was a beautiful princess whose stepmother kept her captive in a tower with no steps or door. It had only one window. The princess lived there all alone without any servants or maids. A fairy comes to her daily to provide food and other necessities. Rapunzel has very long silky hair.

One day a prince happens to come that way on his horse. He and the princess fall in love with each other at first sight. The princess lets down her long hair through the window. The prince holds them and climbs up. He catches the princess by his strong arms, jumps on the horse and thus both escape. Amanda wants to be Rapunzel to live a peaceful life in a tower. But she doesn't want to escape with a prince that is why she says - I'll certainly never let down my bright hair.' 

हाँ, मैं रैपन्जेल की कहानी जानता हूँ। वह एक सुन्दर राजकुमारी थी जिसकी दूसरी माँ (मौसी) ने उसे सीढ़ियों व दरवाजा रहित एक टावर में बंदी बनाकर रखा था। इसमें केवल एक खिड़की थी। राजकुमारी वहाँ बिना किसी नौकर या नौकरानी के एकदम अकेली रहती थी। एक परी नित्यप्रति वहाँ आती है व अन्य आवश्यक वस्तुएँ उपलब्ध कराती है। रैपन्जेल के बाल (केश) बहुत लम्बे हैं।

एक दिन एक राजकुमार अपने घोड़े पर सवार होकर अचानक वहाँ से गुजरता है । वह और राजकुमारी पहली ही नजर में एक-दूसरे से प्रेम करने लगते हैं। राजकुमारी अपने लंबे बाल खिड़की में से नीचे गिरा देती है। राजकुमार उनको पकड़ता है और ऊपर चढ़ आता है। वह राजकुमारी को अपनी मजबूत बाँहों से पकड़कर घोड़े पर कूदता है और इस प्रकार दोनों बच निकलते हैं। .. अमैन्डा, रैपन्जेल होना चाहती है ताकि वह एक टावर में शांतिपूर्ण जीवन व्यतीत कर सके। किन्तु वह एक राजकुमार के साथ बचकर भागना नहीं चाहती इसीलिए वह कहती है कि मैं अपने चमकीले बाल निश्चित रूप से नीचे नहीं गिराऊँगी।'

The girl yearns for being a mermaid drifting blissfully in the emerald sea, an orphan roaming the street barefooted, and a Rapunzel to live peacefully in a tower. This poem tells that she is fed up of being nagged by her mother. She wants to escape from these all.

I think Amanda is sulking as well as moody. She is sulking, so she doesn't look at her mother when she instructs or nags at her. She is moody that's why she wants to be a mermaid or an orphan or Rapunzel.
