The Tomara Rajputs were the first to set up their capital in Delhi. The Rajputs were defeated by the Chauhans in the middle of the 12th century. Under the Tomaras and the Chauhans, Delhi gained importance as a commercial capital. In the beginning of the 13th century, Delhi Sultanate established and Delhi transformed into a capital city covering a vast area of subcontinent.

She was daughter of Iltutmish. She became Sultan in 1236. The chronicler of the age, Minhaj-i-Siraj said that she was more able and qualified than her brothers. At this time when the patronage of slaves increased, it shocked nobles and elites. The authors of Persian Tawarikhs criticised the Delhi Sultans for appoin-ting low and base-born people to high offices.

Distinguish between the administration under Alauddin Khalji and Muhammad-Bin Tughlaq.
