→ City: A city is much bigger than a village and more spread out.

→ Municipal Administration: In big cities, the institute running Municipal administration is called Municipal corporation and in small towns it is called Municipal Council.

→ Organisation of Municipal Corporation/Municipality (The ward councillor and Administrative Staff)—

• The city is divided into different wards and ward councillors get elected. The complicated decisions that affect the entire city are taken by groups of councillors.
• Some councillor forms committees to decide and debate issues.
• The councillors committees and the councillors decide on issues, the Commissioner and the administrative staff implement these. They are appointed by the government.

→ Municipal Corporation/Municipal Functions:

• Water supply, hospitals, roads, street lighting, drainage, fire brigade, market places, records of births and deaths, solid waste management, etc. are the functions of the municipality.
• Other Work:

→ Build Budget: A budget is made with the combined opinion of the councillors of all wards. Money is spent according to the same budget.

→ Means of income of Municipal Corporation/Municipality is:
The Municipal government earns money from property tax and some other taxes such as taxes on house, water, market, entertainment and vehicles, etc.

→ Various Departments: In city, the work is divided into different departments as—water department, the garbage collection department, a department to look after gardens, department to look after roads, sanitation department etc. These different departments do their over work.

→ A Community Protest: If a department does not work properly, then we should take this problem to the councillor of our ward and we should protest in front of it as Gangabai did for the problem of cleanliness. She met the councillor with some . people for cleaning the locality, after this she wrote an application for it and got the locality’s sign signed on it. On the second day a large number of women, councillor and cleaning engineer went to the commissioner’s office. And if the work is not done, the commissioner warns them to sit. As a result, regular cleaning of the locality started.

→ Two Dustbins: Two dustbins are arranged by the Municipal Corporation/ Municipality to dump the waste. Wet waste is put in one and dry in the other. This makes the work of sorting waste easier.
